Accent keycap guide

Artisan Keycaps

Artisan keycaps are handmade resin caps designed to replace a single key — usually Esc or an accent position. They're the cheapest way to add personality to a build without changing the entire keymap.

Why artisan

  • Cheapest way to personalize a board.
  • Most are MX-compatible — drop on top of your existing set.
  • Works as a focal accent without committing to a full themed set.

How to choose an artisan keycap

An artisan keycap is a single handmade accent — not a full set. Four things decide whether the one you pick actually works on your board.

Check the stem — almost all are MX

Resin artisans are moulded for the Cherry MX (+) stem, so they drop onto any MX or MX-clone switch. They will not fit Topre, low-profile, or Choc-spaced boards — confirm your switch type before buying.

Pick the key it replaces first

Esc is the classic artisan slot because it sits alone in row 1 and reads as a signature key. Enter, Caps, the arrow cluster, and a spare F-row key are the other common homes for a single accent cap.

Opaque vs. translucent changes the RGB

Solid character artisans block the light under that key — fine on a non-RGB board. Translucent resin like the jellyfish cap glows with per-key lighting, so match the cap to whether your board is backlit.

Handmade means each cap varies

Artisans are hand-poured resin, so tiny differences in paint, bubbles, and tint are normal rather than defects. In-stock Amazon artisans ship immediately; enthusiast group-buy sculpts can take months and cost far more.
